First off, id just like to say a massive thank you to “Idiot 3″ for letting us support them last Saturday at Hampton’s. A class bunch of chaps and a wicked wicked band too. *tips hat*Thanks also to everyone that showed up too see us as well, was really nice to see familiar faces there again.Well, as you’ve probably guess by now, we (threequartersmile) played a gig this Saturday just gone. Initially the gig with Idiot 3 was planned for a month ago, but due to some issues, Idiot 3 couldn’t make it, it was a shame, but we played the gig anyways. One of the other support bands “My Endeavour”, also played this most recent gig, and was cool to play with those guys again. *does epic fist clench* (only like 2 people got that joke lol)I have to give it to those guys, idiot 3 know how to sound check. We joked about it at the time, but Christ did it pay off. The extra time they spent on getting everything just the way they wanted it, vocal delays spot on time, monitor mixes just right and even the lighting. Was inspirational. Just wish we had the kit to do all that. *turns wallet upside down and dust falls out* :’( lolWe were quiet lucky as we had the middle spot this time, a nice change to going on first. Being only 2nd or 3rd gig with this line up, and these songs, I think it went well. especially as we couldn’t hear anything we were playing, let alone the other band members lol. There is defo room for improvement though. But I hope that comes from confidence in the songs, and confidence in playing. And that should lead to a bit more stage presence as well. *rock stance pose*I feel a time for reflection coming on. We’ve got a nice chunk of songs to play in our bag, and the basic experience there. And now we have the drive and opportunity to sit down, and polish these babies up, get everything tight and really ready to roll out, and rock….wow alliteration baby! lolWe are also in the process of planning the next recording sessions. So in the not too distant future we hope to have the first proper three-quarter release in quite some time. And this ones going to be a doosey. I/we well keep you posted on that as things happen Should be great, and I know we are all really looking forward to getting back in the studio and truly stretching our skills and the songs in ways not heard before. really exciting times ahead. I know its been a quiet few months from our end, but with the web domain up for grabs again, we should also have a site up some time soon too Right, I think I’ve kill enough time at work writing this, and its lunch time anyways lol……what’s on the menu *looks*”Burger in a Bap”….crap!!. oohh but Irish Stew and Irish dessert…..?? what on earth is that…? Ruddy good show old chap!!!

Hi there. Damn its been a while since i’ve last blogged.

Been a fun few weeks (or has it been months?)

I guess the first bit of news, and the main reason for this blog in fact. As you my have guessed from the title is, iv’e finally gotten my self a domain name (well two if you want to be pedantic). Its nothing fancy, but while at work, a friend was saying she was setting up a website for her new business, and i thought, “Hell, why not!?!”

20 mins laters and a few ££’s lighter. Boom done. I have to give credit to Godaddy.com, was very easy.

So as of now ive got two domains:

Cocking “.co.uk” was taken, *shakes fist* i’ll get it one day. Not www.cocking.co.uk, that would just be weird, and is probably already taken…..but im too scared to look. Answers on a post card please.

So yer like i was saying, nothing fancy, just thought id get in there while i could. The .com simply points here (as you can see) for now. but i’ll be looking into hosting a proper site soon. Then i’ll finally have a place to put all the drunken-crazy-maddness inspired noise i call “my music”

OH, the other big news is the upcoming ::ThreeQuarterSmile:: gig

“My Endeavour, Threequartersmile, and Idiot3 would like very much for some people to come and watch them play a FREE ENTRY gig at Hampton’s in town on Saturday, March 15th.”

Should be a laugh, kinda came outta of no where, (like most our gigs *looks at ash* lol) but in the true faith of threequarter, we said yes!!

Hope people can make it, would be great to see some friendly faces.

Plus its the BIG B’s, Mr Teh Benneh’s (Ben Harker that is)’s birthday today, so is a great excuse to come along, get him a drink, and watch him get very…very…drunk !!!! *two thumbs up*

Playzone…..mofoin playzone. Thats right, the place of all our childhood fun and frolics, padded poles and rope swings was the unwitting host to Hollys Birthday party last weekend. 8 of us pilled into two cars and drove down to pompey with an element of the unexpected in my mind at least. The other car got there first and so we (the second……and late car) got a phone call saying there was already, before the place even opened, a MASSIVE queue of 200 people! :O

Luckily when we got there, that figure was slightly overrated. After politely using the bonnet of the car as a “cattle grill” through a few of the resident pompey chav populous, we found a parking space and joined to others (cuttsies) in the que.

A half an hour, and a few beers later, WE WERE IN!!!!

Walking in was like a trip down CRAZY memory lane, the smells, the sounds…..the chavs?!!!

The place was RAMMED with people. But that didnt stop us chucking our shoes n excess weight in the corner and going for it! Keeping it nice and simple, after scouting the place for hiding spots and clean lines to run though like a mad man, the epic game of tag began!!

Man, that places OWNS!! so mad to just be running around like a twat an throwing yourself down padded platforms in what can only be described as “ultimate commando warrior evasion maneuvers” (ay david lol, epic)

On a side not, Simon is the undisputed champion of hide and seek. Seriously, i dont know how he does it, he’s like a fecking jungle Vietcong or something. At one point he literally used other people as a celling to a cubby hole he made lol!!

Good times, good times!! gotta do it again!!

That was just the friday, sat was wicked too. This time the madness was at Reflex. christ that place was again rammed. im sure the DJ said there was 500 people that night. madness. Half a bottle of wine, a few double Vodka Redbull’s and bud’s later. We all hit the floor/errotic not-in-a-gay-way-even-tho-it-was-just-the-guys-up-there-for-ages strip pole.

Again a wicked night!! Just hope we rang in hollys birthday in some kind of style

Its been, what *thinks* three maybe even four years since the threequartersmile chapter of my life started to be written. It was a crazy few years. I mean, i was the result of a line up change, filling the shoes of a guitarist that had left the band. And since that time, the faces continued too change. Bass players left, drummers left, and the people that remained……well they grew beards! Flash forward to present day. We have yet another new line up. but this one is different Mr Ben Harker, who was the front man and guitarist for the group since it’s conception, and who is like a brother to me, has whittled down the wood from his guitar into a pair of sticks, parked him self on a stool and is now the mechanically precise driving power house of ungodly rhythms that is the bands new drummer. Thats right girls and you thought all drummers were fugly lol.Mr Ash Lines, who is like a sister to me. lmao, just kidding, is now the slap happy funk master of the low end we call bass. Ever wanted to feel what falling from a 30 story building and landing on a solid metal floor felt like? no?, well neither have i, but stand in front of this mans amp, and you’ll get bloody close. Pairing but with benneh, we now have a full complete rhythm section, beating like a heart and driving the songs forward like never before.My self, like a mother in law to my self, is still on guitar, but this time taking a small step forward into the shoes of lead guitarist. This has been a big deal for me, and something ive always wanted to do. Amps are up to overdrive, pedals are laid out, and the picks worn down. This gives me the chance to add solo’s and explore even more avenues to the soundscaping in the band. Something i can’t wait to do.But wait….we’re missing something. Something pretty vital to the whole “band thing”. That being the front man of the group. Now, who could we find that would fill the shoes of Mr Ben, and do not only the songs, but the band justice…..well some on that sounds like ben of course, enter:Mr Paddy, like a brother to ben, no really. Now you’ve got to realise. We grabbed this man by the chops and threw him face first in to the band. The really, really deep end of the band. And unlike anyone else, and to the total joy of us all. He picked up the mic, and blew our fucking faces off. With an enthusiasm like no other, pads has driven energy into this band like never before. Like a shot of adrenaline to the hearts of us all. We are whole again. Its been years, but finally we feel complete. This is the new line up, and it feels like it always should have been.We have only been like this for a few weeks now. But already the changes can be seen, and more importantly heard. With only a single full band practice under our belts, we played our first new line up gig a few weeks ago. And it went incredibly well. Even after P.A’s dying on us, we still went into it will all we had and came out the other side with smiles on our faces, with drive and ambition, and ready for the next.This wednesday, we had only our second band practice. This time, not only did our new singer bring another level of precision and confidence to the table. He also brought his guitar. So not only do we have a new singer, we have a rhythm guitarist. Something thats is invaluable to the band and its sound. Filling the gaps and thickening things out. Things have been turned up et another notch in the scale.With a reworking of the practice mind set. We are now focusing on a smaller number of songs at a time. getting each one up to scratch and pushing it up to the bar we have set for ourselves. Already things are sounding better. An old song has had a facelift, a bit of lypo and a pair of bionic balls grafted on. And a new songs are sounding even better.With the future out there, we are all hopeful and pumped with new energy. Ready for the next practice, and ready for the up coming gig. With everything to prove, but nothing to loose. Lock up your daughters, grab a beer, and we’ll see you out there. ThreeQuarterSmile are back like you’ve never heard before.
